RETRO AND RECENT GAMES I GIVE THE NOD TO

From Paul Woakes' Mercenary and Damocles to Exiled Kingdoms ... and more!

I used to love old Commodore 64 and Amiga games, and PC, SNES, Megadrive after that. That was an incredible era of gaming. They kept me company and gave me other worlds to explore, just like novels. I also enjoy the occasional modern game like Exiled Kingdoms by 4 Dimension Games.

Tributes run all through my books but here are just a few.

Elvin from 'The Case of the Notorious Roboticist' pays tribute to the character from the EPYX game 'Impossible Mission'. Hirge from this book pays tribute to your companion in Exiled Kingdoms. Benson, the wise-cracking comedic robot is based on your computer from Mercenary and Damocles (Paul Woakes, you were so far ahead of your time). You might even stumble across a 'Paradroid' in this book if you're not careful.

Other games that get the nod include Elite (the original), Shogun (the c64 one where you had to recruit follwers to become Shogun), Jack Attack (had this on both my Commodore 16 and 64), Super Street Fighter 2 The New Challengers, Flashback and many more. Loved this stuff growing up.
